First United Church of Christ sponsors the Weekend Backpack Food Prigram which was founded in 2008. The program provides bags for food for children in the six elementary schools within Troy as well as Head Start during the school year. The program has grown considerably since 2008 when it served 50 children. Presently, the program serves approximately 386 children each week.
In addition to donations and gifts from individuals, local organizations, and fundraising efforts, the program is supported by grants from The General Fund of the Troy Foundation & The Miami County Foundation.
