Pastor, Rev. Lauren Allen
Pastor Lauren’s ministry has allowed her to serve all around this great country: for 1 year as an Urban Ministries Intern working with Haitian immigrants in Miami, Florida, with its palm trees and tropical beaches, for 7 years as Associate Pastor in Exeter, New Hampshire, with its breathtakingly colorful autumns and snowy New England winters; for 10 years as Pastor in Condon, Oregon, with its rolling wheat fields, rumbling tumble weeds and incredible rock formations. And now for almost 3 years, Pastor Lauren considers it a privilege to be serving as Pastor here at First UCC, Troy, with its beautiful rolling farmland, incredible variety of area parks and recreational opportunities and close proximity to major urban areas.
Pastor Lauren adores her cats and currently has an obsession about the television series, Elementary. She has an interest in all things Scottish, enjoys traveling to new places, near and far, and finds rummaging through thrift stores absolutely irresistible.
Pastor Lauren graduated from Humboldt State University (Arcata, CA), with a BA in Child Development and a minor in Psychology (1983), and from Pacific School of Religion (PSR) in Berkeley, CA, with a Master of Divinity (1993).
There is much talk today of ‘renewing the church.’ But it is Pastor Lauren’s belief that the church’s goal is not to just renew itself, but to find its true calling.
Frederick Buechner once wrote “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” Buechner was referring to the individual, but the same is true of the local church. The local church must find where its deep gladness, its passion, its gifts lies and how that those gifts meets the deep hunger of its specific community and beyond. Therein is the congregation’s lifeblood….indeed, its sole reason for existence.
